66th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

          1.       Apologies for Absence. Apologies had been received from:

                   Sappers Murfin, Yarrow, Kingsford, Lewins, Barr, Croft, Bryce I, Bryce H,                             Watley, Bassett, Everard, Beecroft.

                   There were 30 Blythe Sappers in attendance.

 

        2.         Minutes of 2010 AGM. Minutes of the 2010 65th Annual General                          Meeting held on Wednesday 28th Sept 2010 were confirmed and signed.

 

3.       Chairman’s Report. The Chairman, Sapper Idris Pearce gave his report.

 

a.       Donations.                          He reported that the donations of £1,000 from BS had been given to each of three charities: the Not Forgotten Association, Forces Children’s Trust and the Army Widows Association and letters of thanks and great gratitude had been received from each of them.

b.      Blythe Sappers Cup.            The Chairman reported that he had been honored to represent the BS at the Blythe Sappers Association Football Cup between 23 Engr Regt  & 39 Engr Regt (4-2). He was impressed with the sportsmanlike way the game had been played.

 

          4.       Membership Report                 The report was given by Sapper Holman,           Membership Secretary,  who informed the meeting that our present          membership totaled 315.

                   New Members in 2011 (13): Sappers  Baveystock, Bryce, Heier, Hitman,                      Jackson, James I, McKeown, Murphy, Sheridon, Sherry, Taggart, Welch,                       Whitman.

                   Resignations (6):  Fidler, Irving, Marques, MacAlpine, Radford, Townsley

    Deceased (8): Hughes RF, Marques, Mackenzie, McMillan, Parrott, Reid             RJD, Smith, Shave

                  

5.       Honorary Treasurer’s Report for Year to end of 2010. The Honorary Treasurer gave his report and the Statement of Financial Activities 20.

This report is attached at Annex A.

This also includes the report on The Blythe Sappers Adventurous Training & Challenging Pursuits Fund.

          8.       Adventurous and Challenging Pursuits Fund

 

The Hon Treasurer informed the meeting of those exercises that the Blythe

Sappers had contributed to over the year. We had given to three events which included the Fastnet Race, the first assent of Makalu-Barun  in the Himalaya and a Free-fall parachuting exercise in the USA. A total of £1,063 was donated to these exercises through the Corps Treasurer.

 

          9.       Any Other Business

 

     a.       Sapper John Fitzmaurice asked if the Society will always give an amount to small charities that have a connection with the forces. Chairman Pearce confirmed that this will always be the case and that the Management Committee discuss and approve to which charity our funds should go.

 

     b.       Sapper Laurie McLeman asked that the appreciation be shown to the Honorary Secretary for his endeavors over the year.

 

     c.       Chairman Pearce asked that the Army & Navy Club should also be praised for their hospitality and catering. All agreed.

 

 

10.      Date of next Annual General Meeting –  the date of the next AGM will be      on Wednesday, 26th September 2012.

ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Accounting Convention

The accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention.  Income and

 expenditure has been accounted for on an accruals basis.

Fund accounting

The  Blythe Sappers Association’s funds comprise general unrestricted funds that are dispensable

at the discretion of the Council in furtherance of the objectives of The Blythe Sappers.

Such funds may be held in order to finance both working capital and capital investments.

                 

INFORMATION REGARDING THE COUNCIL AND MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

No Council or Committee Members, nor connected person or party, received any remuneration

from The Blythe Sappers during the current or preceding year.

    a.     In 2010 there was no allocation to the Blythe Sappers' Adventurous and

           Challenging Pursuits Fund

    b.    The total donated to the Fund to date is £31,950 (2009 £31,950). 

    c.    Three  A&CP applications were approved in 2010, grants totalling £1063.00 were made.

    d.   The balance of the Fund granted to RECCT as at 31 Dec 10 stood at £4226.40

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT

I have examined the accounts for the year 2010 together with supporting papers.

I am satisfied that the accounts have been properly maintained and that the foregoing
